this photo shows two surfaces of heavy wall, in order to create the thickness.

the fire place in the house

We are making the stairs.

This is the window frame that create the gap between two surface boards, and that gap is the wall thickness. Thus, these are really important for our external walls for the model, because they act as both window framing and thickness at the same time.
